On most family photos the clothes are shouting.
A checked shirt, a logo hoodie, a floral dress. The eye does not know where to go, and a year later what you see in the picture is the patterns. Photographers put it politely, but all of them say it.
One motif, two sizes, done.

White works for you.
It bounces light back into the face. That is exactly why photographers hold white surfaces next to people when the sun is getting low.
No pattern, no shimmer.
Fine checks and tight stripes cause moiré on digital sensors, and that cannot be retouched away afterwards. A plain shirt does not have the problem.
Comfortable means relaxed.
Children pick at anything that scratches, and picking children are in every second frame. Soft jersey, crew neck, done.
What photographers actually recommend
The list has not changed in years, and it serves you rather than us.
- One colour family, not four
- Everyone in related tones: white, beige, denim. If you want colour, put it on one person, not on all of them.
- No big logos
- Lettering drags the eye away from the face. A small chest print is the exception that works.
- Wash it once first
- New shirts arrive with fold lines from the box. One wash at 30 degrees, dried flat, and they are gone.
- Size the kid by height
- Centimetres, not age. An oversized shirt reads as borrowed in photographs.

What do you wear for family photos?

Are matching outfits not naff in photos?
They get naff when everybody wears the same thing and when it says who is who.

Does white work in photos?
Yes, as long as it is properly white. Nothing washed out, nothing gone grey. Which is why a new shirt for the shoot is not a bad idea.
When should I order?
